Sitecore requires a license.xml file in order to run.  If you do not already have a license file, contact your Sitecore partner for one.  If you have not purchased Sitecore yet, contact us for a demonstration license.

Copy the license.xml file to the Sitecore web root’s data folder, which, for a default Sitecore installation, is:

c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\sitecore\data
